Outdoor Gaming Table: D.I.Y.

We spend a lot of time outside during the summer. We try to have as many outdoor activities to enjoy as we can. Recently we started creating fun little seating groups in our yard for spending time together as a family and for entertaining. Our kids loved the idea of having an outdoor gaming table so they could play with friends and with us. We found this fun tutorial online from Shanty-2-Chic, a great blog about DIY from two women.

I loved the idea that we could create this table at home. Also, I loved that it was two women showing us how to make the table. My boys and my girls were impressed by the skills these women had. I loved that they were seeing someone other than a man build and use power tools. it is so important for boys and girls to see strong women. I also loved how simple the tutorial was to follow. Now we have a fun new table to use in the yard, and I didn’t have e to purchase an overpriced item in a big store.

Summer Sweet Treats: Popsicles

We love summer sweet treats, anything from ice cream to popsicles are total hits in our house. I love creating new and fun sweet treats while the kids are home for summer break. This year I found an idea that totally blew my mind, and surprised my kids. Milk and Cereal Popsicles. Yes, you read that right. It seems a little unconventional, but that is part of its appeal. It’s sweet. It is unexpected, and it has the slightest crunch to it. It’s amazing.

If you want to try something that will totally impress your kids and their friends for that next big summer play date then you have got to try this recipe. It isn’t too hard to make, its cold, its sweet, and it’s something everyone has the ingredients for.

What you will need:

  • 1 med/large banana (or 2 small)
  • 1 Cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 Cup milk
  • 1/2 Cup dry cereal

What you will do:

  1. In the bowl of your mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix the banana on medium until mashed and smooth (approximately 1 minute).
  2. Slowly add in yogurt and milk. Continue mixing until blended. Add the cereal and stir by hand to avoid crushing it.
  3. Pour into popsicle molds. Freeze 8 hours until solid.

You can even mix it up and make it with chocolate milk or strawberry milk. Add any cereal you like, the possibilities are endless!

Summer Obsessions: Tank Tops

One of the greatest parts of summer is there is no dress code. You can hang out in whatever you feel comfortable in, after all, it gets hot. If you live on the west coast you know that the temperatures have reached triple digits this week. And it is HOT. So it can be nice to wear as little as possible. That means shorts and tank tops. Tank tops are the best clothing item for summer in my opinion. When it is that hot out I hate to wear too heavy of a shirt, so I can only imagine how my boys feel when they run around and stay way more active than I do. That’s why I love tank tops for my kids in the summer. I may have to slather them in sunblock every few hours but they stay so much more comfortable.

The Boy’s Store has some stylish choices for boys when it comes to tank tops. Tank tops don’t have to be boring and tacky looking. They can be fun. Thanks to brands like City Threads, Appaman, and Wes and Willy your boys can stay stylish even when they are sleeveless.
