Outdoor Activities with Shaving Cream!

I love giving my kids activities to do outside, and they love it when those outdoor activities make a mess. I do NOT love it when they make a mess, even outside. So I try to find activities that while messy, are easy to clean up.

My kids played at a friends house and used shaving cream outside to make art on the sidewalk. We don’t actually have sidewalk since we live in a rural area. We do have a very large back patio, and they love to use chalk on it. I had been hesitant to let them do too much without being sure it would wash off. So I did a little research and found this fun website called The Tiptoe Fairy. This fun website features a shaving cream recipe that allows your kids to make their own puffy paint for sidewalks (or patios) that washes off easily.  Thank you Tiptoe Fairy for this great idea. Now my kids can make a mess, and I can be sure it comes off.

The Tiptoe Fairy has a very simple and easy to follow tutorial that will help you to recreate her foamy puff paint. My kids loved the paint. Although it does stick pretty well to the cement it washes off with moderate water pressure. It was the perfect way to get them unplugged and outside during their weekend playtime.

Make Your Own Snow!

Winter is in full swing! We love snow in our house, but we haven’t had any yet this year. We have had some rain, which is great,  but you can’t build a snowman with it. So, mom to the rescue! We are going to make your own snow. This DIY project comes from Savvy Sassy Moms.

Savvy Sassy Moms has an incredible recipe/tutorial for creating your own homemade DIY snow. This snow is not actually snow, but it is white and sticks together well for building.

Little hands can even use shovels, and tools and get super crafty with their fake snow. Want to build a snow castle? How about a snow fort? The possibilities are endless. Savvy Sassy Moms has given my kids a way to stay warm while still enjoying building in the “snow.”

Head on over to Savvy Sassy Moms now and get the full tutorial. You can duplicate it to make more, or cut it in half to make less. We suggest getting a plastic tablecloth or even a large plastic storage bin to keep the snow in. That way you have easy cleanup after your little ones are all done playing. Enjoy the snow!

DIY Dreidel

The Dreidel Game is a great tradition that spans hundreds of years and some say can be traced back to the book of Esther. The Dreidel has four Hebrew letters, one on each side, ?? (Nun), ?? (Gimel), ?? (Hei), ?? (Shin). You can even win candy or coins when you play.

To learn more about the Dreidel check out Activity Village’s tutorial. You can also print a Hanukkah Booklet and a Hanukkah Cut and Color sheet.
