Spooky Cookies: Chocolate Chip Spider Cookies

It is officially October which means that I can officially post Halloween ideas without angering other people. Yes, my favorite holidays are Christmas, Halloween, and Easter. Yes, those holidays last longer than just one month in my house. Yes, I decorate, and yes my Halloween decorations have been up for three weeks already. No, I will not apologize for it. Now that the rest of the world has caught up we can begin celebrating in earnest.

First on the agenda is food. Because food is life, and treats are the best. We do a lot of baking in the fall and winter. It all starts during the Halloween season. My kids and I just did a whole batch of Star Wars Sugar Cookies to share with the kindergarten class. But next on my agenda is Halloween cookies. Since we just did roll out sugar cookies I am not so sure I want to spend my day rolling out, cutting, and decorating again so soon. But I do want some fun Halloween treats on hand. So after doing a little looking, I found something that will be simple to make, be fun, look great, and give me that sweet treat I am looking for.

Spooky Cookies

Chocolate Chip Spider Cookies are the way to go this year. This amazing little recipe and tutorial from Tastes Better From Scratch is perfect for the spooky season. Lauren from Tastes Better From Scratch has a great and simple recipe that will knock your socks off. Sometimes we make the mistake of trying to impress at holiday time with fantastic out of this world recipes, meals, desserts, and decor. But with so much going on in my life I discovered it is best to do what I enjoy, make myself happy, and just live my best life possible. So I make treats because I want them, and I decorate them because I want something fun to brighten my day. But, I know my limits, and with so much going on right now this fun and simple dessert is right up my alley. So thank you, Lauren, for reminding me that simple is great!

Head on over to  Tastes Better From Scratch to get the full recipe and tutorial now. And check out some of Lauren’s other great ideas when you are there. You will not be disappointed.

Oreo Nutella Witch Hat Cookies: Halloween Goodies

IMG_0834.JPGHalloween is a fun and sweet holiday. It’s all about laughter, fun, make believe, and sweet treats. We don’t eat a lot of sweet treats in our house so Halloween is a special event where we get to have some great cookies, cakes, and candy that we usually don’t allow our children. We don’t quite let them go hog wild, but when we attend a party they are allowed to sample a little of everything, we just make sure to eat a good meal before we head out to the party. This year it is our turn to host and we are looking forward to making some delicious sweet treats for all of our friends. I like to find new and unique things to try that our friends have probably never samples before, so I was excited when I ran across this fun new recipe at See Vanessa Craft.

Vanessa is a crafter, baker, blogger, and toddler Mommy. She knows good treats. Her tutorial on Oreo Nutella Witch Hat Cookies almost made me swoon. It requires no baking, just some chocolate spreading, sprinkling, and drying. Simple, straight forward, and delicious! Vanessa knows her way around great crafts and baked goods and if you spend more than five minutes on here page you will find more than a dozen new ideas you can’t wait to try. I had to restrain myself and only pay attention to the tutorial for the cookies otherwise I would have never left the website. If you want to find other great ideas head on over to See Vanessa Craft now.

These cookies are so adorable and sweet it is almost impossible to only use them one time a year, but I am not so sure witch hats will be popular outside of October. So I will try to only make them once, but if they taste as good as I think they will it will be incredibly hard to restrain myself. Combining Oreos and Nutella may just be my personal heaven in a cookie. So let’s check out what we need to get started:

What You Will Need:

Bugles
Nutella
Oreos
Black Chocolate Melts
Orange & Black Nonpareils
Toothpicks
Parchment Paper
Floral Foam

Now just head on over to See Vanessa Craft and follow her easy instructions. Her pictures make it a little simpler to follow and soon you will be serving up some sweet witches hats. Just remember to try and eat them in moderation, I will try too!
