Halloween Crafts: Fluffy Pumpkin Slime

Slime has been very popular the last few years. In our house we love to make it, we try to avoid the recipes that ask for Borax which can irritate skin, but otherwise we do enjoy a good slime recipe. Instead of Borax (or liquid Starch which still contains Borax) we choose to use either contact solution or baking soda.

We wanted a fun Halloween themed slime to keep the kids busy this month and we found this fun and simple recipe at I Heart Arts N Crafts. This recipe uses baking soda and saline solution with shaving cream to create that fun fluffy texture.

You can make it in any color you want, we love the orange as it reminds us of pumpkins and that just screams Halloween. I Heart Arts N Crafts has an incredibly easy tutorial that is simple to follow, my 7 year old actually made it alone while I worked in the kitchen on dinner. We put out some of our fun Halloween themed toys like spider rings, skulls, bats, and got some little plastic pumpkins for the kids to play with and stick in the slime. It made for a good long activity that lasted all night.

Pumpkin Carving Ideas

We have decided to take the plunge this year and carve pumpkins. We usually paint since our kids have been young. but this year they have requested that we carve. I have been scouring the internet for easy and simple pumpkin carving stencils. I came across several easy ones that the kids can work on with help. We are thinking Wonder Woman and Mickey Mouse. It will probably be more than I am prepared for. But we are going to tackle it anyway.

I found hundreds of Disney stencils in my search for the perfect Mickey Mouse. So if you and your kiddos are looking for pretty much anything Disney this is the place to look.

Wonder Woman was harder to find. Everyone had silhouettes, and there is just no way my 5-year old can handle that. I finally found this idea of doing her symbol. It is still a little complicated, but with help from Mom and Dad, I am sure we can make it happen easier than a silhouette. We all love to carve a pumpkin at Halloween. But they go bad so quickly! We have resorted to painting them in years past but now the kids are older and they are demanding a carving session. I love a carved pumpkin. They are so sweet to light and enjoy during the nights leading to Halloween, and they make a house look ready on Halloween night. I hate to see them rot. So this year we are researching ideas to keep them from rotting too soon.

I found several ideas and asked several friends what has worked best for them in the past. And I have come to the conclusion that nothing is perfect, but there are several ways to keep the rotting from happening too soon.

We have gathered a couple of ideas for you to try out. We hope that this helps you to enjoy some of your favorite carved pumpkins this fall. And learn a new technique for pumpkin preserving.
