Cheap Summer Fun: Pool Noodle Sprinkler

Summer gets expensive. Who knew that keeping a kid entertained could cost so much money? We don’t want you spending your kids’ college tuition keeping them busy all summer. Sure it is fun to go to the water park, the movies, the amusement park, and the beach. But those trips start to take a toll on our wallet. So we want to find you some simple, fun, and cheap ideas to keep those kids busy this summer.

Pool Noodle sprinklers may not be as extravagant as the water park, but they can be easily created on the cheap, and who can beat the commute? Throw some water balloons in, add a few buckets, and squirt guns and you better believe your kids will be busy and having a blast!

What you will need:

  • Pool Noodle
  • Duct Tape
  • Phillips head screw driver

What you will do:

  • Simply poke holes in the pool noodle, make as many as you want.
  • Slide the pool noodle over the end of the hose, duct tape the exposed end of the noodle so that water can not escape it.
  • Then turn on the hose and watch as your pool noodle sprinkler comes to life!

Cool Summer Games: Water Piñata

Summer gets really hot around these parts. So it can be difficult to get the kids outside to play in the hot afternoon, especially in August when we can hit triple digits by noon. One fun new activity we are excited to try this summer is a water piñata. We saw this incredibly fun idea on Spoonful. You don’t need much to accomplish the activity, and it can be recreated all summer long on the cheap. Which us moms love. Our kids live the excitement and the cool water. So let’s get started so they can enjoy the cool and we can watch and enjoy their reactions!

What You Will Need:

Medium-sized trash bag (we used a clear, 10-gallon bag)
Water
Rope
Tree limb
Bandanna or scarf
Broom or Bat

1. Begun by using your water hose to fill the trash bag, fill about 1-2 gallons. Knot the top of the bag well so it doesn’t come open prematurely.
2. Now take your rope and tie one end tightly underneath the knot on the trash bag. Now toss the other end of the rope over a tree branch or a support beam of your patio (this is an adult job) now tie it securely or hold it so that it can be raised or lowered (adult job).
3. Finally let the kids take turns playing. Blindfold each child one at a time, spin them in a circle 3 times, then let them take 3 whacks at the water piñata. The winner is the person who busts the bag and gets soaked!

This fun and unique piñata is easy to make and can make a splash of any summer day!
